Oxford Garden Side Table
Fewer things say lazy afternoon than being in your backyard lounging on a bench, with the latest mystery by your favorite author and a cool drink. You even have a large cushion firmly pushed up against the arm of your bench. But as you sit down, you realize something is terribly wrong with this picture. How are you going to lean up against your cushion, prop your book on your tummy and read if you have to hold your drink at the same time? You sit up, put your drink in the grass, reposition yourself and start to read. Just as the plot is drawing you in, you become thirsty. You reach down for your drink and not looking at what you are doing, you knock it over into the grass. You are able to salvage half of your beverage and as you lift it to drink, you notice there are ants in the glass. There goes your perfect lazy day! But out of all this, you remember that as you were ordering your bench, you noticed that the Oxford Garden Siena Side Table matched perfectly with your patio set.
Inspired, you run inside and grab your laptop. Before returning back outside, you refill your iced tea and drink it at the counter in your kitchen. No, you tell yourself, you aren’t risking reenacting that experience again. Finding that warm spot on your bench that you just left, you put the computer in your lap and order the Oxford table you recalled seeing. Whew! You tell yourself! Minor crisis is averted and it wasn’t anywhere close to the cost you feared it would be. Surprised at its low cost, you pat yourself on the back. You bring the laptop back inside and resume your reading. It isn’t ideal, you tell yourself, after all, you really would have preferred to have your drink right there next to you as you read, but it will be okay for a few days. As a solitary person, you really enjoy being outside, listening to the sounds of Mother Nature in the background, all the while getting lost in your books.
When your Oxford Garden Side Table arrives a few days later, just in time for the next weekend, you are by this time ½ way into your novel and can’t wait to set up your table and finish your book. Laundry is done, weeds in the garden are pulled, bills are paid and even your dog is excited about relaxing with you. A few minutes later, you tell yourself, “I can’t believe it took only a few minutes to set this table up! I am impressed with myself!” Sturdy as it is, it only weighs 21 pounds. So you haven’t strained anything to lift it when you put it beside your bench. You run inside, having forgotten your iced tea, walk outside and take a deep breath. Although summer just officially came to a close, the air is still warm, but it is not hot. There is a nice breeze, but it’s not windy. In fact, it is an absolutely perfect day to reward yourself for finishing all your household chores so early. You put your iced tea down on the side table and prop that cushion up against the bench’s arm again. “Is this a déjà vu or what?” You chuckle out loud.
The Story Can’t Possibly End This Way, Does It? What Happens Next?
Leaning up against your cushion, again, your dog takes his place beside your feet. Your book is back on your tummy and you are once again deeply involved in the characters and their lives. Periodically, you reach over for your drink and take a sip. If only for a moment, you stop and look at your Oxford Garden Side Table, which is the perfect dimension at 19 1/2″W x 19 1/2″D x 19 3/4″H, you smile to yourself and resume reading. It isn’t often you just give in to your impulses and buy something like this. You are a practical person and are meticulous about researching everything ad nauseam before buying. But, given that you own an Oxford bench and one of their formal dining sets and armchairs, you have never been disappointed. You resume reading.
Over time, you have come to fall in love with your garden side table and wonder how you have lived in this house as long as you have without one. It’s not as though it were this expensive item that could be considered a luxury. But, as with all the other Oxford pieces, you love how durable this table is. It is now going on six months that you have owned it, and apart from the natural blonde weathering to a warm gray patina, which is a natural process with shorea, that is the only change you have noticed. In fact, next to lounging outside and reading your books, it is one of the most used pieces of furniture you own.
If this is a story that you can relate to because you, too, are a practical person, you will definitely want to consider complementing your benches, recliners or armchairs with an Oxford Garden Side Table. Whether you are a mystery novel reader, a person who loves to relax after gardening or someone who star gazes, having a side table to lay things on when you aren’t using them makes things a whole lot easier.
